New Junior Umpire Resources
Junior Umpiring Information and Application
Entry Level Umpiring Information and Application. Space Limited. Less than 10 spots remaining.
This Information is for applicants new to the program and have never umpired for the EPBA. If you are an experienced and/or returning umpire, please email Paul Samanant at paul.samanant@epbaseball.com, and/or check the returning and senior umpire tab, and/or monitor organizational emails from administrators.
The EPBA is seeking entry level umpire applicants. Entry level umpires are defined as those still in school/high school. Entry level umpires consist primarily of age-qualified eighth and all ninth graders that are umpiring with the EPBA for the first time. If you are a prospective new entry-level umpire, please read this letter in its entirety. If interested, click on links at end of this bulletin to apply.
Umpire pay starts at $55/game for entry/third grade level and progressively scales to $73-$85 or more for higher grade levels or travel or fall baseball games. During the season there are often opportunities for qualified first-year umpires to sub for senior umpires at travel games and tourneys. In these instances, the umpire is paid at the full travel rate of $73.50.
At the highest levels (Legion, Town Ball), umpires can make over $73.50-$90 per game or more. Entry level umpires can expect to receive 5 to 9 games per season (or much more) although your summer schedule and conflicts may increase or decrease with the number of games called. Experienced umpires that remain in the system for multiple years can find the number of games/seasons increase to much higher levels.
Umpiring is like any other job and can be a resume builder (for work and leadership). Umpiring does develop leadership, communication, and responsibility skills. References can be provided as appropriate. For long term, umpiring can become a significant source of secondary income during the summer months. There is a general lack of qualified umpires at the youth level and the EPBA is seeking individuals who not only will work enthusiastically and responsibly but also strive for excellence on the job. This requires training, compliance, communications, and responsibilities as typically are required for jobs in leadership roles.
For EPBA umpiring, most games are played at fields in Eden Prairie. The season runs from May through July 2026 with fall ball again in September. Minimum age requirement is 14 years old during the 2026 season: Applicants should be born before May 1, 2012.
Space is limited to 18 umpires per class. Registration deadline is February 28, 2026 or when full. We will carry a waitlist of no more than 10 applicants above the limit. Once the limit is reached, registration will be close.
Training details will be provided at a later date.
Job requirements are as follows:
- Parent AND umpire attend the mandatory information session on March 16, 2026
- Umpires attend the mandatory in person training on April 19, 2026
- Attend and complete all required training sessions (as possible) including concussion certification. Read all training materials and communications from the umpiring director.
- 100 % communication with umpire directors, scheduler/assignors.
- 100% compliance with use of Arbiter online scheduling tool: This means that you properly register with the site, keep your availability updated, respond to assignor/tool communications regarding game assignments.
- 100% responsibility to make assigned games and if any changes are made (due to legitimate conflicts such as illness, EPBA game etc.), to communicate this to your assignor as soon as possible.
