Eden Prairie Legion Baseball – Sr. Legion Head Coach

The Eden Prairie American Legion program is operated under the umbrella of the Eden Prairie Baseball Association (EPBA). The head coach is selected by the EPBA board of directors and will hold a voting role on the Board. EPBA strongly believes continuity between youth and Legion is pivotal in building a successful baseball program. 

The Senior Legion 1 Head Coach is responsible for the leadership, development, organization, and overall operation of a four-team Legion baseball program. The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of player development, coaching staff management, program administration, and community representation while promoting sportsmanship and discipline.

This position requires strong leadership, organizational, and baseball development skills to create a competitive and positive environment for athletes across all levels of the program.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Oversight

  • Direct and oversee all operations within the Eden Prairie American Legion program.
  • Establish a program philosophy, expectations, and standards.
  • Coordinate player development plans appropriate for each team.
  • Ensure consistency in coaching methods and team culture across all teams.
  • Recruit and select the team staff of all four teams.

Coaching & Player Development

  • Head coach of the Senior Legion 1 team.
  • Develop athletes in leadership & all baseball skills though playing time and practices.
  • Foster a competitive environment that prioritizes sportsmanship, character, and personal growth.
  • Assist players interested in advancing to collegiate level baseball opportunities.
  • Actively involved in the administration of off-season winter clinics for EPBA players 5-11 years old

Team Administration

  • Coordinate team schedules, tournaments, practices, travel, and game operations.
  • Maintain compliance with American Legion Baseball rules.
  • Collaborate with EPBA leadership on budgeting and operational needs.
  • Ensure proper communication with players, parents, coaches, umpires, and league officials.

Culture & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a positive role model and ambassador for the American Legion Baseball Program.
  • Promote discipline, accountability, and teamwork among players and staff.
  • Build strong relationships with local schools, community organizations, and baseball stakeholders.
  • Support fundraising efforts, sponsorship development, and community events.
  • Encourage academic achievement and positive citizenship among student-athletes.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a safe and structured environment for all participants.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, disciplinary issues, and parent concerns.
  • Promote proper sportsmanship and ethical conduct at all times.


Qualifications

  • Previous baseball coaching experience at the high school, legion, collegiate, or competitive youth level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals, player development, and game strategy.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively mentor and motivate student-athletes ages 15–18.
  • Experience managing multiple teams and coaching staffs preferred.
  • Meet all background screening requirements of EPBA & American Legion Baseball.

Time Commitment

This is a seasonal position requiring evenings, weekends, practices, games, tournaments, meetings, and occasional travel during the baseball season and offseason program activities.

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and program structure. Additional support for travel, tournaments, and program-related expenses may be provided.
