The Travel Commitment Pledge form:  http://files.leagueathletics.com/Text/Documents/2207/16101.pdf  is to be filled out and returned to the head coach upon being assigned to a travel team.

Travel Team Information 2010

For 2010 the EPBA expects to field two to four teams at age levels 10 – 15 with approx. twelve players per team. The final number and level of travel teams (i.e. A, B1, and B2) will be determined by registration numbers and tryouts.

Players should register with their current grade unless they will have a birthday prior to the cut off date – that is they must not reach the next age before May 1, 2010. Birth cut-off dates for 16-18 ages, Mickey Mantle and Legion, need to occur on or before December 31, 2009. It is permissible for a player to play up from their designated age division to play with their grade, but they may not play down. For example a 9 year old may play in the 10 year old division if he is doing so to play with his grade but a 11 year old may not play in the 10 year old division under any circumstances. The parents have the choice, but it is the recommendation of the Board that kids play with their grade.

For 10 year olds, players must be born between 5/1/99 and 4/31/00

For 11 year olds, players must be born between 5/1/98 and 4/31/99

For 12 year olds, players must be born between 5/1/97 and 4/31/98

For 13 year olds, players must be born between 5/1/96 and 4/31/97

For 14 year olds, players must be born between 5/1/95 and 4/31/96

For 15 year olds, players must be born between 5/1/94 and 4/31/95

Travel team players are expected to be 100% committed to playing baseball during the entire baseball season, mid April through late July. All travel players will sign a Travel Team Commitment form. Regular season league games will be on weeknights (Mon. - Thurs.) starting in early May for 10’s to 14’s or in late May for 15’s and older. Regular season games begin usually about 6:15 PM; some games may be scheduled as late as 8:30 PM. Players are expected to report 30 to 60 minutes before game time. Additionally, each A & B1 team will participate in four to seven weekend tournaments. Most weekend tournaments begin late Friday afternoon or early evening and end on Sunday. Some teams could play into early August should they earn a berth to a national tournament.

Special note to parents of 10,11, 12& 13 year old players:

The EPBA may field limited tournament play B2 travel teams at the 11,12,13 and possibly the 10 year old ages. These B2 teams will allow families that want their players to experience travel baseball through a Metro Baseball League schedule of 16 games, but do not want to make the full commitment of all the weekend tournaments and full practice schedules. The B2 teams will have more limited practice time than the A and B1 travel teams.

If you have a player trying out for a Travel Team, you will need to provide the EPBA with your preference of one of the following options at the time you check in for tryouts on the first night:

Option 1:         Prefer to only play on a B2 Team
Option 2;         Do not want to play on the B2 team. Only want to be considered for A or B1 Teams
Option 3:         No preference. Want to be considered for any of the teams – A, B1, B2

Note for all ages:

Any player who tries out for a Travel Team but is not selected will have a place on one of our Community League teams. The Community League provides a competitive baseball experience with a more limited practice and game schedule.   These teams play 13 – 15 regular season games and at least two season ending tournament games – finishing their season by mid-July.

Thank you for registering for baseball this summer. We look forward to providing a great experience for the kids. If you have any questions about the travel program, please feel free to contact the EPBA Travel Director – Doug Kaufman at

Tryouts:

The only possible excuses for not participating in ALL try-outs are 1) a serious injury; 2) a previously scheduled trip or vacation which is noted at the time of registration. We require that ALL players attend ALL 3 rounds of travel tryouts unless an excuse is approved, IN ADVANCE, through the Travel Director ( Doug Kaufman ).   Players will be graded in the first round by impartial travel coaches (not related to the age level being graded).   Players will be graded in the second round  by unbiased baseball coaches of the High School baseball program. Coaches will conduct a coach’s scrimmage in the third round to observe players in game situations and specific skills such as pitching. Based upon the tryouts, teams will be selected per current EPBA selection procedures.

Grading players during tryouts is not a perfect science. Tryout grades are only a reflection of a player’s abilities on that day.   Coaches generally select players based upon tryout grades, filling positions for the team and personal knowledge of players. No system is perfect and we always look for ways to improve the process. If you have any suggestions or wish to help us in this effort, contact a board member or attend board meetings.

All travel levels: players will be required to purchase and maintain their own helmets. Coaches will coordinate and order helmets after the teams are selected.
